Coldplay's New Single

Post by The_Fuzz22 » 12 Sep 2011, 08:04

I'm a big fan, this came out in the UK this morning.

Thoughts?

The first single was released a few months ago now, definitely also worth a listen:

Great video too.

Saw Coldplay live at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

People around us were smoking stuff and it effected me pretty hard.

I don't remember all of the show, but I do recall when we stopped at the market afterwards and the fruits and vegetables were extraordinarily bright and shiny.

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed.

I was gonna pause my music to check it out, but I was playing Shine on You Crazy Diamond

I'll check it out soon enough.

... later ....

It's pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking, if not a slight lean to the current mainstream pop or indie sound. You can definitely hear they're borrowing that "dance pop" sound and making it Coldplay-ish. Or are they making Coldplay dance-popish?

Essentially, it would be much better if the parts with fake drums were just replaced with real drums. I can't stand fake clap sounds. I don't really mind the synth, though it's rather atypical of them.

I wouldn't say they've sold out just yet, but this definitely is a move towards two popular musical movements. One it helped spawn, and one I wish would die.

I'll go back and listen to Pink Floyd now.

I've always appreciated their choices in style from album to album as they definitely vary. Personally, I found their last release (with Viva la Vida) was my favourite of their entire back catalogue.

I can see what you mean by it swinging towards current styles, I'll accept it's probably an attempt to cash in on recent, popular trends.
However it's worth noting that these are just two singles of a full album that I expect to vary widely in content, and have almost definitely been chosen for their radio playability. Other tracks on the final release will likely have more instrumental depth.
