Am I missing something here as an ignorant foreigner? I thought the normal price for games in the US was $60? Why is $78 considered a good deal? Is it a collectors edition or something? Or are we talking Canadian/Australian/Zimbabwean/Martian/[Insert variant here] dollars here?

I assume he is aussie by the store Harvey Norman .

Retail for a new game is $110 which considering our savage dollar is higher then the american one is kind of bullshit.

Hence why I love steam.

Since most new games here cost around £30-£40, which seems very reasonable, I find these pricing systems to be frankly ridiculous. I can only hope it's because of different currency rates and not just the fact whoever prices your games is clawing for cash.

New games in America run a standard price of $60 USD.

One (almighty) American Dollar is equivalent to 0.715847 Euros.

Sixty American Dollars is equivalent to €42.95 - about €43 In (most of) the European Union, you're overpaying for your games.

One (almighty) American Dollar is equivalent to 0.6243 British Sterling Pounds.

Sixty American dollars is equivalent to £37.46 - about £37. In England, you seem to get a bit of a deal on your games.

One (almighty) American Dollar is equivalent to 0.95325 Australian Dollars.

Sixty American Dollars is equivalent to 57.19 Australian Dollars - about $57. In Australia, you're being grossly overcharged for games (as would be expected from the ridiculous gaming legislature there).

Wow, that is just insane.

Actually, new releases usually fall in the €50-60 range here, so the US seems to be getting a slightly better deal there.

Damn Brits, still using Pounds. I'll edit that, I can't believe I didn't distinguish £ from €. Herp. ._.
