I got onto Minecraft today to find I was being offered a new update. I declined, assuming it was a little glitch, but just a few minutes ago, I found out via Facebook that 1.1 has been released. As always, I'd say don't update until the staff give the OK and the server's updated. :)

Does the new update add anything useful? Or is it just Mojang rolling out the bug fixes they promised for 1.0?

A few bug fixes, but also some additions. One thing that interests me is spawn eggs. Almost all mobs can be spawned by right clicking while holding that mob's egg.

Biome transitions (particularly to swamps) are more gradual. There are now spawn eggs in creative mode for easy mob spawning. A new world type for singleplayer (superflat) was added, there's more language support, and ladders no longer have collision boxes.

also sheep now eat grass and regrow wool (YAY) and Bow's can be enchanted! (ME GUSTA)

now all they need is to updates Testificates to actually do something rather than hiding all their character in their noses.

Mojang hired a specialist in AI recently, so Testificates will likely be getting an improvement in the next update. Hopefully they fix wolves too. :)

Added enchantments to Bows
New Golden Apple recipe (Uses gold nuggets instead of gold blocks)
56 new language translations, including fictional ones such as Pirate
Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes
Added beaches
Biomes are slightly more varied
Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds
Added Spawn Eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)
Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default)
Removed collision box from ladders
Sheep eat Grass, converting them to Dirt, and regain their Wool again
Fixed collision box on fence gates
Walking on Crops no longer tramples them
Magma Cubes now drop Magma Cream
Leaves now have a slight chance of dropping Red Apples

Fixed Powered Rail Non-Depowering Bug
Fixed Powered Rail Failure-to-Update on Placement Bug

Not the same. Bedrock is not able to be placed - you can hold it. It's removed when placed. I guess if you did that for mobs, it COULD work, but it might even cause more lag.

I want more ocean life. Squids are terribly annoying when trying to build underwater and something like a whale would be cool.

Sucks, I kept hitting Do Not Update, but the game kept locking up. My only option was to update, hopefully it won't be long before the server updates. :(
