1.6 is out!

It's old but gold. If it could help you out we've probably chucked it in here.

1.6 is out!

Post by Skunk_Giant » 26 May 2011, 04:48

As usual, I assume the server will be waiting for the bukkit updates, so DO NOT update until Wokka says so.
Here's a list of the changes - http://notch.tumblr.com/post/5861083562 ... t-beta-1-6
Oh hey, I have a signature now! 26/07/11

Yup, It's definitely that time again. If you're like me thought you're already prepared for this with a 1.5 backup and using the new launcher and hitting [Not now] when it asks you to update. Usually too I find out when its okay to update when you try to sign onto the server and it says "out of date client" error, to which updating will of course fix.

Let just hope this major bug fix update doesn't fix a hundred things while breaking and making 500 more complications as Wokka would probably predict based on previous updates that have come out :roll:

Well, it looks like the update brought in some bugs that make SMP nearly unplayable or even crash the server, lets see if these get confirmed and if they are confirmed that they get fixed. I for one don't want 1.6 with server crashing bugs on our server.

Oh... can you tell us a few examples? :(

Edit: I checked it out on the wiki, here are a few;

Extreme lags on linux and windows multiplayer servers, the minecraft process uses 100% of CPU as soon as the host is logged on. Others may log in via LAN, and wireless without lag. [1]
The frames per second of the client dropped considerably for some users. [2]
Crafting a map on a Linux server crashes the server (100% load, not responding).

According to their facebook account they just released a hotfix (1.6.3) so that should have fixed those major bugs

It's a bad sign when minecraft goes from version 1.6.0 to 1.6.4 in the span of a day.

And then;

Bug Fixes:

Fixed CPU issue on multiplayer (?)

Bugs:

CPU issue fix is still failing, same loop as 1.6.3

But it is showing that they are willing to fix it. And i'm sure noone was almost dont with their updating of plugins. So no harm.

I almost want to update just to play with the new stuff...

It's almost like they don't do any internal testing.

What's really odd, he actually did quite a bit of external testing yesterday with SSP and SMP, he pulled people in from IRC to help test it.

I'm actually looking forward to this update. This will be quite a big improvement; I'm so glad Notch is getting Multiplayer friendly.

Well, the kind of do, but their internal testing is the, what 6 or 7 of them? All in the same room running top-of-the-line equipment...
